Interflug 2008

El domingo pasado fuimos a pasar el día viendo un par de partidos de Ultimate Frisbee aprovechando que se celebraba el Interflug Berlin Hat Tournament 2008. Me trajo muy buenos recuerdos de cuando yo solía entrenar y me tiraba el fin de semana jugando hasta acabar muerto de cansancio.

Como siempre, muy buen ambiente y aproveché para ver a gente a la que no veía en años. El set completo de fotos está aquí.

Last Sunday we spent half the day watching a few Ultimate Frisbee games from the Interflug Berlin Hat Tournament 2008. Some years ago I would have been myself there playing to exhaustion.

As usual, very relaxed atmosphere plus I managed to meet a couple of people I had not seen for ages. The complete set of photos is here.

Otra cosa interesante son los búnkers en los que se refugiaban los alemanes durante los bombardeos aliados.

Esta era la escalera para la evacuación de emergencia.

Inside Tempelhof (II)

Si no recuerdo mal, el hall de entrada se quemó cuando los rusos cedieron el control del aeropuerto después de la segunda guerra mundial. La solución adoptada fue hacer un suelo provisional (acortando muchísimo la altura del hall) y usar el revestimiento de piedra para otras partes del edificio. Y hasta ahora...

If I remember right, the entrance hall burnt after the russiansgave control of the airport to the americans after WWII. Now there is a dividing floor which massively reduces the height of the hall and the stones have been used as a quarry for other places in the airport. And it does not look like anything else will happen soon... (Photo above made with Autostitch)

Esta semana he estado en Toulouse por trabajo. Siempre me resulta agradable volver a esta ciudad y descubrir nuevas calles y rutas gracias a los taxistas (para ir del aeropuerto al centro y de vuelta hay mil formas de hacerlo con sus correspondientes tarifas). Lo bueno es que esta vez he tenido tiempo de al menos tirar un par de fotos. Lo malo es que ha coincidido con mi quinto aniversario de boda, pero ésa es otra historia...

La foto es de la Place du Capitole, hacia la una de la madrugada entre semana. Está hecha con Austostitch.

I´ve spent some days in Toulouse this last week. It´s always nice to go back there because of the nice memories. Thanks to the very creative routes of the taxi drivers I keep discovering new ways of getting from A to B, even if these never change.

The good thing is that this time I managed to shoot some photos, the not-so-good side is that the main meeting was on my fifth wedding anniversary...

Inside Tempelhof (I)

Esta pista de baloncesto está en la parte de arriba del edificio central. En el diseño original la idea era hacer un restaurante, pero nunca llegó a hacerse y cuando los americanos controlaban el aeropuerto hicieron una pista de baloncesto y una bolera.

This basketball court is on the top floor of the central building. The original intention was to have here a restaurant, but never was actually built. While Tempelhof was an USAF base, this court and a few bowling lanes were built.

Tempelhof

El miércoles pasado hice un tour del aeropuerto de Tempelhof descubriendo su historia y lo que encierra dentro. Son dos horas muy recomendables y me alegro de haberlo hecho antes de que el aeropuerto eche el cierre.

Last Wednesday I spent a couple of hours on an guided tour of Tempelhof Airport. It was really good and I´m glad I did it before it closes down.
