Festival of Lights - Berlin

Believe it or not, this was "right first time", which was sort of lucky because be the time I got to the N I had to stop to think how to do the mirror image (painting the letters from "behind").

There was somebody behind my camera watching me as I was light-painting. When I was finished he was kind of curious to see the result so I let him have a look at the screen. And he smiled.

Festival of Lights - Gendarmenmarkt

By the time we took this one, my feet were already starting to complain (sort of chilly night!). I have the feeling it would have been better to do the photo with some light available, but you can not have it all.

Looking at it now, just wondering if from the composition point of view, it would have been better to keep walking a bit to get the concert hall properly into the photo. But then, without a wide lens sometimes there is so much you can do.

Festival of Lights - Kaisersaal

I wanted to take this one for a long time now. I have similar ones with day light, but not quite the same as at night.

Festival of Lights 2010

Last year I was in England during the Festival of Lights. This year I went out again to take some photos. I learned the lesson from previous times and got more layers of clothes than you can think of. I am not sure if I took the gloves off for the one above. Probably not.

Looks like it was yesterday, and the night of the tripods is back. I´m really glad to see that I actually learn something from year to year, so this time I remembered to put on two pair of socks! Warm feet give you the extra bit of patience to try and get a nicer shot rather than rushing the whole thing.

The photo gallery is here and I may do another photowalk during the week as there are loads of buildings left.

It´s actually called Festival of Light because there are many buildings illuminated for a couple of weeks. But there were loads of photographers with tripods (me included), literally everywhere taking photos like mad.

I learned quite a few things yesterday night. The main one is that if I ever want to take good shots I urgently need gloves and thick socks. It was damn cold!

You can see a Picasa set with photos here. I´d like to know which one you like best.
