Trastero (i)

En realidad este sitio es bastante oscuro, pero precisamente por eso me gustan estas fotos, por haber sabido verlas dentro de mi mente antes de hacerlas. El resto es albañilería con el ordenador (en este caso 10 segundos de Photomatix).

Looking for the photo

Some people have the amazing skill to take good photos wherever they go (gear plays no role here, photos are made by photographers, not by the cameras). And it is not extraordinary and elaborate settings, the trick is doing this with simple things. I need to work on that skill, looking at ordinary things and extracting the composition that tells a story.

This is the drying room of a building in Leipzig. I had seen it a few years ago and always thought it could be a good place for a photo, but I did not know how to take the photo. I  don´t know how to take the photo yet but at least the higher dynamic range allows me to play with the light and the shadows...

Absorta en la lectura

Hoy es el día del libro y aunque parezca raro decirlo, los libros son para leerlos, y no sólo para comprarlos y/o regalarlos.

Neues Rathaus - Leipzig

In case someone is wondering. the HDR images are done with the test version on Photomatix. It is actually better to have cloudy days, as they result in much more dramatic shots as a sunny day would be.

Bundesverwaltungsgericht (i)

Dull grey cloudy days make for great reasonable HDR shots.

Winter holidays

Coming back from New Zealand to Berlin could not be any more dramatic. I went from +25°C to -20°C, which made for great winter holidays with my family in the Thuringian Forest.

XXI Jornadas Cervantinas

Sydney

On the way back I asked for a window seat, hoping to have another chance at the Opera House in Sydney. As a bonus I also got the closing photo of this series (tomorrow).

Shot from the hip

For my liking in terms of photo composition, I would have preferred the dog to be on this side, but there is so much you can do when you try not to be noticed while taking a photo...

Low tide

Not sure if I already mentioned it earlier. One thing about travelling is finding the right presents to bring back. In this case I decided to bring two small bottles, one filled with water from the ocean and the other one filled with sand. They loved it.

Light painting

One of the last photos before the light was gone on the sky.

World Buskers Festival - Christchurch

The last night I went to Hagley park, where the Busker festival had its opening night. Very very good. As an anecdote, after watching some of the shows I thought it would be good to do some light painting and got the photo above after a couple of trials. Shortly afterwards somebody from the festival´s staff showed up to say photos were not allowed (although everyone was taping the show, and not only taking photos!). Obviously if you have a tripod and a DSLR you must be a pro...

I had my photo and did not feel like having a useless discussion with this guy while the precious sunset light was fading away so I moved on (which I wanted to do anyway) and started to take the next shot. Funnily enough after a while another guy from the staff showed up and said the photos were bombastic, and would I be so kind to send them by e-mail to the organisers? I even got his card! So, not very consistent treatment to photographers but a lot of fun.

And finally, as the light disappeared I thought of attending one more show in a dome, but all the tickets were sold out! I spent five minutes asking if anybody was willing to sell me their tickets until this guy shows up and says, there you are, you can have mine, for free! Somebody I met a long time ago in Cranfield would call this karma...

Extreme Danger - Keep Out

As mentioned many times, the city centre still is off limits. This building shows some real plasters which probably keep it together or at least avoid cracks to grow further.

An interesting detail is that plants are starting to grow in the unused areas of the pavement.

The joy of reading (ii)

I just cannot make up my mind which shot I like best. What do you think?
